Belles Advance to LSC Semifinals with a 70-62 Win over Cameron

The third time was the charm for Alesha Ellis and her Belles basketball team as they defeat Cameron University for the first time since 2019

After losing to Cameron in both conference matchups earlier this season, the Angelo State Belles finally notched a win against the Aggies in the first round of the Lone Star Conference tournament in Frisco on Thursday.

The Belles shot 46 percent from the field and 91 percent from the charity stripe.

Recently named LSC Academic and Defensive Player of the Year, sophomore Sawyer Lloyd led the entire game in scoring with twenty-three points. Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant, the junior from Amarillo by way of Wayland Baptist, had a double-double with sixteen points and fourteen rebounds. Copperas Cove native Madisen Honea proved to be a super sub by scoring nine points in thirty minutes of action.

The Belles held the Aggies to 32 percent shooting from the field.

Angelo State advances to play 3-seed UT-Tyler on Saturday, March 4th, at noon. In their last meeting, the Patriots beat Belles at the Junell Center Stephens Arena 62-51 on February 18th.
