Derlene Cundiff, 1946-2023

Derlene Cundiff, age 76, of San Angelo, Texas passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Shannon Hospital. Derlene “Sissy” was born in Junction, Texas on May 11, 1946, to the late Boyce William Burkes and Evelyne Jones Burkes.

Sissy was a hard worker who took pride in a job well done. For many years, she worked as a hair stylist before learning how to do reupholstery work on furniture. She enjoyed working on furniture and taking something old and making it new. Sissy loved working with her hands and spent many hours in her garden and tending to her yard. She had a strong personality and learned from an early age how to fend for herself. She was a firecracker, a unique personality who loved animals probably more than she loved people. Sissy worked as a CNA until her retirement. She will forever be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Sissy was preceded in death by her parents; sister Betty Joiner; sister Viola Joiner; and brother Nolan Burkes. She leaves behind to cherish her memory son Kenneth Cundiff; daughter Carol Yell; son Ronnie Cundriff; and son Edward Cundiff; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters Edna Janelle Whitlock, Mary Etta Whitlock, Evelyn Joyce Ozgood; and brother Hershel Boblow Burkes. In addition, she leaves behind numerous other loving family members and friends.
