Gilbert Coronado Soto, 1944-2023

Gilbert Coronado Soto, 78, of San Angelo, passed away on Saturday May 20, 2023 at home surrounded by family.

Mr. Soto was born in Aramberrí Nuevo León, Mexico on August 11, 1944 to Juan & Nemoria Soto. Gilbert’s strong work ethic led to him becoming an expert in flooring. When he was not working, Gilbert enjoyed watching boxing and classic movies, listening to Ranchera music, or riding his horses. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, whether it was barbecuing or rooting for his beloved Dallas Cowboys. He will be deeply missed.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Nemoria Soto; son, Johnny Soto; brothers, Ramiro and Juan Manuel Soto.

Gilbert is survived by his wife, Mary “Mere” Soto; his children, Gilbert C. Soto, Jr. and Corina Soto (Carlos), of San Angelo, TX; grandchildren, Jonathan, Justin, and Jeremy Galvan, Brandon and Isaac Soto, and Mikayla Minjarez; great-grandchildren, Ayla Zapata and Zayliana Galvan. He is also survived by his siblings, Betty Eller (Rick) of San Antonio, TX, Amparo Escobedo (Leo), Mary Lou Cortez, Frank Soto (Josie), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins of Laredo, TX.

Visitation will be from 5-9 PM on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 am on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Johnson’s Funeral Home with interment to follow at Calvary.

Serving as pallbearers are Gilbert Jr., Brandon, and Isaac Soto, Jonathan, Jeremy, and Carlos Galvan.

The Soto Family would also like to thank St. Gabriel’s Hospice for the care they gave Gilbert during this difficult time.
