Irion County Lady Hornets Fall in State Semifinals 47-35

In front of 1,881 fans at the Alamodome in San Antonio, the Irion County Lady Hornets' magical season came to end after losing to Huckabay 47-35. The Lady Hornets led 10-7 after the first quarter, but the Lady Indians outscored them every quarter after that.

With the win, Huckabay advanced to the State final with a 40-2 record while Irion County fell to 29-9.

For the Lady Hornets, Melanie Rainey scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds on 4/18 shooting. Acelyn Fowler finished second on the team for scoring with 6 points. Overall, Irion County shot 25% from the field and 13.3% from three.

In contrast, Huckabay shot 45% from the field and 29% from three. They were led by Rion Baucus who scored 23 of the team's 47 points.

The loss ended the best season in school history for the Lady Hornets. Huckabay advanced to play Nazareth in the Final.

Irion County Hornets play Benjamin in Snyder

While the Lady Hornets season ended on Thursday, the men's team plays against the Benjamin Mustangs on Friday afternoon at the Western Texas College Coliseum in Snyder at 4 PM. The winner will play the winner between Garden City and Munday in the Regional final.
