Larry Thomas Ross, 1942-2023
In loving memory of Larry Ross, who passed away peacefully on May 17, 2023, at 81 years of age in San Angelo, Texas. Larry was born on February 22, 1942, in Arlington, Indiana to William and Bessie Ross. Upon graduation from Arlington High School in 1960, he embarked on a remarkable journey that led him to contribute his skills and expertise to the United States Air Force. He completed basic training in San Antonio, Texas.
He studied Russian at the University of Indiana and at Syracuse University in New York, and completed Vietnamese language training in El Paso, Texas. He served as a Russian and Vietnamese linguist with various assignments in Okinawa, Japan, Germany, and the US. He served in the Security Service and dedicated a significant portion of his life to serving his country, until his retirement in 1981 with the distinguished rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Through his dedication and unwavering commitment, he made a lasting impact during his years of service.
Larry was a member of the Heritage Chapter of the Freedom Through Vigilance Association, a small but robust organization, in which he served as Secretary and Treasurer for many years. His legacy within the Air Force will forever be remembered.
After retirement, Larry pursued Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science and in Accounting, graduating in 1985. He taught Computer Science at Howard College and then ran his own computer consulting business. He enjoyed traveling, photography, and genealogy in particular. He had done extensive research into his family and his wife's family, finding many interesting and hard-working family members along the way.
Beyond his professional achievements, Larry was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Diane Ross, and two daughters, Kimberly McKee (Steve) of San Antonio and Laura Ross of Austin, and his loving sister, Katherine Ellison of Rushville, Indiana, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, William Arthur Ross, and a nephew, Lynn Ellison. His memory will forever remain in our hearts.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hodges and Dr. Kenneth Perret at Shannon Medical Center, as well as the dedicated ER and ICU staff, for their care. We appreciate the Pastoral Care chaplains for their exceptional support during a time of stress and bereavement.

A memorial service will be held later in the summer at Calvary Lutheran Church.
